How To Get To Bluff Springs

Bluff Springs is located off Rio Penasco Road Highway in the Lincoln National Forest in southwestern New Mexico.

This waterfall is just 8 miles outside of Cloudcroft. Turn onto Rio Penasco Rd, which is paved for 2 miles and then turns into a dirt road for another 2 miles. There’s only one sign for Bluff Springs, and the road is rough with many potholes. The waterfall is a nice sight and fun to walk to, especially up the stairs to the top. Even during the week, there were several people and cars. If you’ve never been and are coming to this area, it’s worth the drive.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Bluff Springs is during the fall, especially in October. This is when the trees change colors, making the scenery particularly beautiful.

Spring and summer are also good times to visit for lush green vegetation and wildflowers. However, keep in mind that the area can be crowded even during the week, so visiting during non-peak times might provide a more peaceful experience.

Avoid winter months if you want to avoid freezing temperatures and potentially icy roads.
